Level 1 requires a sequence of objectives rather than one garage exit: solve the colored-car elevator puzzle, collect and turn four keys, find the elevator in the darker floors, visit the Hub to enable the main gate, then cross the final garage using its lit areas to avoid Smilers.
The colored cars and some objective placements can vary. Read the current puzzle and search the current rooms instead of copying a screenshot's colors or assuming the elevator always appears on one floor.
Keep track of the current garage section
| Area | What unlocks progress | Threat to plan around |
|---|---|---|
| Starting garage | Car-color elevator input | Puzzle orientation and changing colors |
| Key-search garage | Four keys turned close together | Skin-Stealers |
| Dark multi-floor garage | Finding the correct elevator | Darkness and Skin-Stealers |
| Hub detour | Terminal, power and computer gate control | Confusing generated text with a fixed code |
| Final garage | Reaching the Pipe Dreams door during the light cycle | Smilers in darkness |
If you are looking for a missing key after reaching the Hub, you have mixed up two different stages. Use the environment and current obstruction to choose the next task.
Read the colored cars before using the elevator

At the start, notice the elevator and the nearby notes. Search the side rooms for the area containing the four colored cars and the clue that explains how to read them. The cars' colors are your elevator input.
Keep their arrangement as well as their colors in mind. A list of the colors you happened to notice is less useful than a record in the order the puzzle requests. If teammates split the search, have one person report the complete ordered sequence to the player at the elevator.
The input is not a permanent password. A video showing red, red, blue and yellow is describing that run's cars. Read your own arrangement, enter the matching colors and use the elevator once it unlocks.
Use the quieter opening rooms to gather a flashlight and sanity supplies. You will have fewer comfortable opportunities to sort equipment after entering the hostile search areas.
Search cabinets and desks for four keys
The next garage asks for four keys. Check the rooms around the area, including cabinet compartments, desks and drawers. A key at eye level can be missed if you only look at the bottom shelf, so inspect the furniture rather than glancing through the doorway.
Keep a simple record of which rooms you have searched. In multiplayer, divide the search by a visible part of the garage and report cleared rooms. This is more useful than several players repeatedly checking the closest cabinet while a farther room remains untouched.
Skin-Stealers roam this section. If one sees you, retreat into a room and close the door. They cannot open doors, so the barrier gives you a way to break the pursuit. Listen and use any view through the door before returning to the corridor.
In co-op, do not assume a familiar player-shaped figure is a teammate. Use the game's identification behavior when you have time and space, but prioritize escaping if the figure is already rushing toward you. Waiting for an answer at close range is not a substitute for a door.
Coordinate the four key turns

After collecting all four keys, return to the room with four key slots. Insert the keys and turn them close together. The turns reset if too much time passes before the full set is active.
With four players, assign one slot to each person and use a clear count to turn them together. With fewer players, agree which slots each person will cover before starting. Do not repeatedly turn one key while another player is still searching the garage for the last one.
If the door does not open, first confirm that all four keys have been collected and that all four turns overlapped. A reset usually calls for another coordinated attempt at the panel, not another search through already cleared cabinets.
Once the door opens, move into the darker garage section. That transition completes the key objective.
Find the elevator across the darker floors

The following area has several floors, many similar doors and a possible elevator location on each layer. Check methodically instead of assuming the first door without an elevator means you chose the wrong level.
Take the flashlight and Almond Water provided near the approach if you need them. Use the light to inspect doorways and keep track of the ramp connecting the floors. Establish a return path before going deeper, because the same darkness also hides Skin-Stealers.
Rooms can provide hiding opportunities. Identify one before you commit to a long stretch of corridor. If an entity appears, use the door and room you have already found rather than gambling on the next unopened doorway.
When a floor's elevator location is empty, continue to the next layer and check there. The goal is the elevator itself, not a fixed number of doors opened. Once you find it, enter and use its controls to reach the next stage.
Enable the gate through the Hub
The next obstruction sends you through the Hub. Enter its non-level door and reach the security terminal. The terminal asks you to match the text shown on the right with an identical entry among the selectable columns. Complete the matches rather than typing a remembered screenshot string.
After the terminal opens the door, turn on the room's power using the switch panel. Find the note for computer access, sign in and run Gate.exe. Return to Level 1 and operate the gate control to continue.
This detour is necessary because the big garage gate is controlled from the Hub computer. Repeatedly trying the closed gate before enabling it does not solve the underlying requirement.
Keep the distinction between the generated matching puzzle and the computer login. The terminal is a comparison task. The note inside the powered room supplies the login information for the next interaction.
Cross the final garage from light to light

Beyond the gate, the garage has lighting that switches off and on. Smilers threaten the dark open area. Stay in the permanently lit side sections when the main garage goes dark, and move between safe areas when the lighting permits.
Before leaving one lit section, identify the next. Check the side doors as you progress; the correct one leads to a pipe-lined passage and Level 2. Other doors can contain supplies rather than the exit.
Do not treat the Smiler as an enemy to fight or a darkness effect that a handheld flashlight necessarily cancels. The navigation rule here is the area's lighting cycle. Wait for a suitable crossing and keep the next safe section in view.
In co-op, avoid sending a trailing player across just as the lights fail. A brief agreed call from the safe area is more useful than a rushed scramble from different starting points. Regroup at a lit section, then continue the search for the Pipe Dreams doorway.
The pipe corridor confirms the ordinary Level 1 route is complete. A separate later card-controlled route can lead toward an ending, but it is not a replacement for the early Station progression through Level 2.
