Escape the Backrooms is available on Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher released this edition on July 7, 2026, with cross-platform play alongside Xbox, PlayStation and PC. This is a Switch 2 release; do not confuse it with similarly named Backrooms games listed for the original Nintendo Switch.
The game supports playing alone or in an online team of up to four people. The four-player description is not a claim of four-player local split-screen.
Find the correct Nintendo edition
Look for the exact Escape the Backrooms title published by Secret Mode and verify that the product identifies Nintendo Switch 2. Searches can also return Escape - Backrooms Horror and other titles whose names look similar.
A familiar yellow corridor on a cover is not enough to identify the product. Compare the full name, publisher and platform before buying, especially when following a video whose title shortens the game's name.

Cross-play with a mixed group
The Switch 2 edition can play with the other supported platforms. You do not need to persuade every friend to buy the same console version. You do need everyone to have the correct game, current updates and access appropriate to their device.
The session limit is four players including the host. Use the game's room-code joining feature to bring together players on different platforms. If joining fails, check the code and free slots, then try a newly created lobby before concluding that cross-play is unavailable.
Install updates before testing chat or joining
The August 27, 2026 update fixed Switch 2 soft locks during repeated lobby confirmations, joining a Steam-hosted session and losing controller input in menus. It also repaired cross-platform room-code failures.
The October 29 Lost & Found update fixed voice chat stopping on Nintendo's edition when playing with an Xbox host, and improved network error handling when a host leaves on Switch 2. These are dated fixes, so a video recorded before them may describe a different state of the game.
If your lobby connects but voices do not, test close to another player and check whether the issue depends on a particular headset or host. Do not treat a microphone fault as proof that the two platforms cannot play together.
Check package details on your own console
A verified current file size, fixed frame rate and resolution are not established here for the Switch 2 edition. The PC's 25 GB storage requirement is a PC requirement and should not be copied into a Switch 2 installation guide.
Use the current product and download screens on your own console for package information. Likewise, a gameplay video's output resolution is not a measurement of the game's internal rendering resolution or a guarantee that every level performs identically.
